Eileen the Crow is one of the first NPCs players are likely to meet in Bloodborne, hidden away in Central Yharnam right by the sewers. Unlike most fellow Hunters, Eileen is friendly to the player right out the gate – if a bit stern given the tense atmosphere she finds herself in. Eileen is also a foreigner to Yharnam, which is likely why she doesn't feel the need to ever flee at the sight of the many horrors in her path.

Eileen is also an assassin tasked with slaying any Hunters who find themselves lusting too badly for the blood around them. Her line of work is a dangerous one and Yharnam is an intense enough city where her mind starts to snap by the time the Blood Moon falls. Eileen the Crow is kind enough to teach the player several gestures so long as they keep up with her questline, but her fate is one of the most morbid in Bloodborne.

By The Central Yharnam Sewers

Bloodborne Eileen

Eileen the Crow's first encounter is actually completely optional – which makes sense considering she's fairly well hidden in Central Yharnam. Anyone who misses their opportunity to speak with Eileen at the start of the game can always begin her questline in earnest at the Cathedral Ward. That said, meeting Eileen by the Central Yharnam sewers is the only way to learn the Shake Off Cape Gesture.

Eileen will be waiting near the rafters above the dry docks right by the sewer entrance. Instead of descending down the stairs into the sewers, break the barrels to the right. Hug the right wall and follow the path until reaching another set of barrels. Smash them to clear a path that leads to a balcony where Eileen will be overlooking the city.

When spoken to, Eileen wil warn Hunters of the beasts lurking within the hunt. If spoken to twice, Eileen will teach them the Shake Off Gesture along with handing over 4 Bold Hunter's Marks. Regardless of whether players meet Eileen in Central Yharnam, her quest doesn't truly begin until Cathedral Ward.

Cathedral Ward Encounter

Eileen Shh

Meeting Eileen in Cathedral Ward is considerably more involved than in Central Yharnam. She won't appear at all if players don't unlock the three gates inside the Ward. While this can be done as easily as just playing through the area as intended, there is one gate that won't open without a key item: the Hunter Chief Emblem.

The Hunter Chief Emblem can be purchased inside the Hunter's Dream after obtaining the Sword Hunter Badge (dropped by killing the Cleric Beast on the Great Bridge.) The Emblem itself costs 10,000 Blood Echoes so it might not be the most affordable buy if players are trying to do Eileen's questline as soon as possible.

After the Hunter Chief Emblem has been used to unlock Vicar Amelia's boss room at the Grand Cathedral, Eileen will spawn inside of Oedon Chapel (right at the Cathedral Ward Lantern,) warning players away from entering the Tomb – lest they meet Henryk's wrath, a Hunter who's recently gone mad and Eileen has vowed to kill. She'll teach you the Shhh! Gesture and set Hunters on their way.

Henryk And The Tomb Of Oedon

Bloodborne Eileen

Eileen will be staring at the Tomb of Oedon (where Father Gascoigne was fought) when you speak to her in Oedon Chapel, strongly advising Hunters to stay away for their own good. Should players return to Oedon Chapel after the fact, they'll find Eileen has gone to fight Henryk herself.

The battle with Henryk is the single most important sequence in Eileen the Crow's questline, and whether or not players participate will determine her fate. For the sake of seeing the whole quest, go to the Tomb of Oedon and prepare to help Eileen defeat Henryk. Be mindful, however, that Eileen can be aggord and the frantic nature of the fight makes it easy to accidentally strike her.

Once killed, Henryk will drop the Heir Rune (increased Blood Echoes obtained from Visceral Attacks) and Eileen will begrudgingly thank the player while acknowledging that they must have also killed Father Gascoigne earlier in the game. She'll teach you the Approval Gesture and be on her way.

Grand Cathedral Battle

Bloodborne Eileen Dying

Eileen won't appear again until players defeat Rom, the Vacuous Spider midway through Bloodborne and the Blood Moon sets over Yharnam. So long as Eileen's questline has been completed in full up to this point, she'll appear at the entrance of the Grand Cathedral, already having been defeated by her next target: the Bloody Crow of Cainhurst.

Despite being at death's door, Eileen will assure players to walk away and let her handle the hunt. The fight against the Bloody Crow of Cainhurst is far harder than Henryk. Be ready to parry and interrupt his attacks as much as possible, especially since he starts using Numbing Mist near death.

When killed, Eileen will thank the player for all the help they've offered her while acknowledging that she's past her prime. Eileen will hand over the Crow Hunter Badge while offering full access to the Hunter of Hunter Covenants. If players failed to trigger any Eileen encounters before the Blood Moon, she'll simply disappear for the rest of the game.

Becoming The Hunted

Eileen vs Hunter

While Eileen can actually defeat Henryk herself, leaving her unattended isn't exactly the best idea. Instead of meeting the Bloody Crow of Cainhurst at the Grand Cathedral upon defeating Rom, you'll find a perfectly healthy Eileen ready to kill. In ignoring Eileen's questline, she never sees the play as a comrade and eventually deems them too bloodthirsty to live.

Eileen isn't a particularly challenging battle, but it's worth examining her hostility towards the player. On one hand, it's easy to see her questline as a test of character that gets her to trust the player. On the other hand, the fact she's so quick to aggro on players (even if they haven't been particularly violent) makes Eileen's judgement seem cloudy in hindsight.
